The Uspenski Cathedral could well be the most strikingly exotic building in Helsinki to the Western eye. Built in the 1860's, this imposing brick building has exerted its Russian presence over the city. The interior is unbelievably ornate.
Once you get over the initial shock of the interior decorations, the second shock sets in - there is no place to sit! The lengthy orthodox services are standing room only events... |
