Day 5 - The Boat

We left Skagway early Thursday evening. We proceeded directly south out the long channel that leads to the open ocean west of Prince of Wales island. Seas were still fairly calm, with 11 foot swells. We continued outside Haida Gwaii (formerly known as the Queen Charlotte islands) and Vancouver island. It's amazing how fast a thousand miles can disappear at 20mph with a little persistence. We sailed all day Friday, mostly out of sight of land, then all day Saturday, reaching the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca a little after noon.

We didn't see as much wildlife this time. Our cabin was facing open ocean as we proceeded south, the ocean was significantly rougher so it was more difficult to spot small variations caused by whales, dolphins and porpoises. We generally took it easy. We did take advantage of an opportunity to attend a cooking show and tour one of the ship's galleys.
