The constrictions on the Saguaro and Barrel cactus correspond with periods of damaging freeze that altered its growth pattern. Despite what you see in the movies, cactus are not prickly reservoirs of fresh water. The liquid is acidic and high in alkaloids. In very small quantities it might not hurt you too bad, but as a survival tool, not so much. | |
