The progression
I found this little hill interesting. Near the top petrified stumps are visible. In the next layer down are lighter colored patches where the root systems of stumps that have eroded away can be seen. Then, scattered around the base are petrified stumps that have rolled down to the bottom after their supports have eroded away.
