Furnace Creek Inn opened its doors for business in February of 1927. It is another of the fabulous inns and lodges that can be found at national parks throughout the west. Other notable examples include lodges at Mt Rainier in Washington, Crater Lake and Oregon Caves in Oregon, The Awahnee in Yosemite, California, and the lodge on the rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. A particularly unusual feature of this lodge is its season - closed from Mid may until Mid October, due to inclement weather - the extream heat!
