Materials Needed

The Process

  1. Stake out shape with hose
  2. Dig hole, level base and top edge
  3. Remove roots, rocks, sharp objects
  4. Trowel on a 2" layer of damp sand or underlayment
  5. Incline sides about 20 degrees
  6. Make plant shelves a minimum of 10" wide
  7. Place liner carefully, do NOT damage liner
  8. Liner calculations - 2D + W + 2 by 2D + L + 2 where:
        D=depth in feet
        W=Width in feet
        L=Length in feet
    example:
        pond 5 feet wide and 8 feet long and 2 feet deep
            2*2 + 5 + 2 = 11 feet
            2*2 + 8 + 2 = 14 feet
  9. Build rock shapes with 2 inch foam.  Fasten with tie wires
  10. Cover foam with 1" chicken wire & dobbies.  Use tie wire to secure, being careful not to puncture liner
  11. Place concrete on foam (cement, sand, gravel)
  12. Plaster rock with sand mix (cement and sand)
  13. Fill pond
  14. Plumb waterfall
Sit back and have a can of ginger ale.
